I bought a Scott CycloCross frame and forks 3 or 4 years ago, its an aluminium frame so not a current model as far as I can see.

The frame and forks came in the original box from the manufacturer, eg hadn’t been opened or otherwise prepared by the shop I bought it from.

Lately the bike has been chewing through external bottom brackets, even in the dry. I think this is just bad luck with the shimano ultegra bearings, but it did make me wonder, Do Scott frames come prepared? Should I have had the bottom bracket shell faced when I bought it?

I’ve built up loads of aluminium frames and never felt the need to have this done before.

    some do, some don’t

It’s not a bad idea to do it, especially as you are going through bearings. It’s not a big job (if you have the tools 🙂 )
