    Hi all,

This may be a lame question but I am only just getting back into riding after something like 8 years.

Does the bashring always replace the third ring on the chainset? or can I have one with all the rings and a bashring

you can have both but you need a specific bash like this and it wont fit all crank/chainring combinations, only way to know for sure is to try so could be an expensive mistake (tho if you got it from CRC you could always send it back)

Blackspire big ring protector covers all 3 rings.

Also look at the MRP XCG.. another option for triple or double setups

How often do you use the big ring and the smallest sprocket? (i.e. top gear)

If the answer is “not very often/never” then get a 36t middle ring and a bash ring, because you only effecively loose top gear and you spend less time changing from big to middle and back again.

I’m a recent convert to this and it’s surprisingly effective

I wouldn’t spend too much. It’s there to be bashed.

Peter .- Do you run a twin and bash or just a twin? ON the Pitch?

The MRP XCG can be fitted to the BB or ISCG?? whats ISCG?

International Standard Chain Guide mount – three bolt holes mounted around the BB shell, that allow the bash to be fitted very securely without having to squeeze it between your driveside BB cup and frame.

And the weight (I’ve got one) is not inconsiderable; I’d look at 24/36/bash instead.

I realised that I never really rode on road for more than a few miles anyway, so a triple and bash set-up seems overkill. Much prefer trimming things down to the bare essentials with something like what househusband says – 24/36/bash. If you run out of gears on the way down with that, then stick on a road cassette. If you still run out of gears on the way down, then you’re probably sponsored by Specialized, Orange or Santa Cruz 😉

My thoughts also, be interesting to see some shots. Never knew such a thing existed.
