  • Bank adverts on TV – Grrrrrrr

Is it just me (Grumpy, cynical old man), but does anyone else feel like throwing something at the TV when a bank advert comes on? Especially the LLoyds one where they tell you (with the aid of a horse and some very evocative footage)they’ve been on our side for 200 years? They should be on their knees begging forgiveness for the mess they have left us in, not pretending to be our friends. I hate the b*****ds.

Yes. Banks are arseholes. All of them.

No it’s not you. Yes I agree. Especially that Lloyds series of adverts. When I was a customer of their’s back in the 90s they weren’t on my side. It was all about selling me products. Nothing else.

Do you have other self control issues?

You do realise we’ve got our money back from Lloyds now, with interest?

    RBS? Fire away…

Would you like to explain exactly what it was that Lloyds bank did that was so wrong (other than agreeing to take on the mess that was HBOS)?

Banks don’t deserve much, if any, sympathy but Lloyds is the ‘least bad’ – despite PPI.
They didn’t – and still don’t – have a ‘casino’ (investment) division; they trundled along quite happily and paid good dividends until gordon brown ‘encouraged’ them to buy the toxic pile of poo that was hbos – no need for due diligence chaps and you can help me save the global banking system. OK gordie.
Back on their feet now and free of gov involvement.
I’m guessing they will announce a share buy back to drive up share price and, by happy coincidence, that will increase exec remuneration.
I think they’re a buy and long term hold.

Banks aren’t that bad – a necessary evil. Ok they charge ridiculous amounts of interest on credit, but i suppose they’re making a crust like everyone else.

I got an email the other day saying I could ‘enjoy’ a 3% fee for abroad card transactions the other day.

    Wait a minute….

What about a national bank that solely does savings and loans.

Reasonable interest rates not forcing people to pay day loans, stable savings, no investment bank nonsense.

The stupid dreary acoustic cover version soundtracks on those Lloyds adverts make me want to smash my TV into bits.

I could wear out multiple pairs of shoes kicking each and every one of the “stars” in the Nationwide poetry adverts too.

So it’s not just you 😀

That rate is slightly high, but playing devils advocate here slightly, the ability to use a bit of plastic to purchase stuff virtually anywhere in the world is a pretty convenient thing to be able to do, so I don’t really have a problem with paying for that sort of service.

And arguments like ‘it’s my bloody money’ so why should have to pay to use it, is kind of like saying water falls from the sky, so why should I pay to drink it. It’s not the whole picture.

EDIT. The Lloyd’s adverts are shit, though.

It is true that banks are and have been part of the problem, however, I doubt very much that a Banker was involved in the creative processes that produced the emotive tv adverts. Apart from signing it off and paying for it of course.

Blame also lies fairly and squarely on the shoulders of all those jolly useful people in marketing and advertising.

    Bill Hicks was so right.

Who will have a detailed brief of the ‘message’ the big bosses are trying to fool us with, and the benefit of the regular meetings with top brass where they narrow down various options.

Which is why you get a ‘aren’t we ethical’ Natwest advert. 😯

Still want to kill everyone involved with the Nationwide ‘a pome wot I wrote’ ads. 🙂

And as for the desecration of Top Cat forever…

I feel condescended to when the lloyds ad comes on. That could be my inferiority complex though. Not sure.

Oh this! So this. It’s like those shitty Facebook quote graphics people put up come to life.
I didn’t know it was Nationwide, so they don’t work anyway. Probably because the telly goes off before the end.

I don’t even notice the content of bank adverts. They’re so bland and unengaging.

try having a French bank account if you want to get really grumpy.

Charges for EVERYTHING. Charges to withdraw more than €400 a month from a cashpoint. Charges for having a bank card. Charges for a bank card that can work overseas. Charges for a cash withdrawal from a different Euro bank. Charges for having online banking….

    summary example in English:
