  • Audi heating problems – anyone able to help?

Just noticed that my Audi (53 plate A4) has developed a heating problem.

One side is blowing out burning hot air and the other is blowing out freezing cold air. I’ve got both sides set to the same temperature but even when I put the temp lower or higher the fan just pushes more air out or less.

    Any ideas?

If its the Air Con it may need re-gasing.

I thought it might be that but last time it needed regassing both sides were blowing out warm air.

This time the left side is blowing out roasting air and the right is blowing out freezing air. Almost like it is trying to compensate for each others extreme temperature

Damn – someone has said it might be about £500 to fix 🙁

Ah, I used to have an Audi. I think you’ll find you’re using the wrong air, you need special Audi air, which looks similar to mortal air but is three times the price.

Sounds like a mixing flap has stopped working, if it’s the flap then it won’t be to bad, if it’s the control then take out a second mortgage 😉

You could try an Audi forum search on tyresmoke, or ask a question there, generally pretty helpful. If the heater control unit has gone it will be pricey but an Audi specialist will probably fit a second hand unit for you if you source it, Mastertechs did this for me, the Audi part was £660, I got one from A8 parts for a fraction of that. Quite a bit of labour tho, the dash had to cme out.

Your best bet is to find someone with VCDS Diagnostics (I have just ordered mine for my A6 but not cheap, goto rosstech), this will tell you if anything electronic / electrical has failed.
The A4’s heater system is notorious for failing / sticking, this is mainly due to excessive moisture being circulated / dragged in. it’s an easy job to strip out and check the controller, but a much bigger job if the matrix behind the dash is the fault.
If it’s a conmtroller, you can pick them up cheap enough off ebay.

The best Audi / VAG forum i’ve used is here: –

    Audi Forum

Choose your model and ask some questions.

Request here for someone who may be close with VCDS, most people on there withh check you car over for the price of a couple of beers.

I had a search for you as i’m already a member, this seems to be your problem.

    Heater issue A4

Looks like an easy fix too.
