In my experience, not the make of car but the type.
4x4's (not proper landies) driven by women on the school run are generally the worst. Carve you up, don't acknowledge or thanks if you pull over etc.

I'm never in that much of a rush to care.
Although I do have a mate that got really sick of huge ostentatious cars running him off the road and he got some stickers made which said something along the lines of
"I have this ridiculously huge car to compensate for my tiny little c0ck."
He would walk about sticking them on to all the daft Range Rovers, Cayenne's, Q7's etc. I though it was funny as hell.

There's c0cks in all types of car, but when motorbiking, the following are best given a wide berth in my experience
bmw - don't respond well to being overtaken, will be sniffing your farts at every opportunity, indicators purely for decoration
audi especially tt, see bmw
volvos - noted middle lane hoggers, no idea of distance, drive at speed limit -10mph
boy racer mobiles, no concept of road safety, deseperate need to show off to mates, usually ok if only occupant in car, potentially lethal if more than one
4x4s apart from landies, or ones covered with dirt - anyone who would choose to drive something like that round the town has something wrong with themPosted 3 years ago # -

Regardless of whether they're any good or not, Audi has become the car marque of choice for people who care more about image than what they're actually driving.
I bought my Audi A6 Avant 8 years ago because it was a quality built car with great fuel efficiency and low running costs (go discover all about Audi variable servicing). This car has worked out cheaper than any other family car to run! I am not a poser or a cxck!(well I might be a cxck, but this has nothing to do with any motor vehicle or what I do at the wheel). I drive responsibly and never race round in it. I don't drive aggressively close up behind people. I hate agression on the roads! I have too much experience of driving to be bothered harming my own health when driving.
It is narrow mindedness and jealousy that breeds the sort of numpty comment quoted above.
Clarkson is a great entertainer. He says much in jest (almost everything actually). He is actually pandering to the thickos out there when he says such things about a particular owner of a brand of car. The sort of people who actually believe his views and comments. Expert satire! Can you not see this?

They do more than tow caravans and drive on green lanes!!
I would sooner focus attention on the 1.1 dickmobiles driven by the acne riddled yoofs with their baseball caps on at 40deg and with their right arm over the other side of the steering wheel cos "it looks kool" and who insist that their Nova/Clio/Saxo mum's shopping trolley, which will still handle like aforementioned shopping trolley despite the LEDs and baked bean tin exhaust, can corner like a Lamborghini Murcielago so they test it on every corner in sight.
even better when you are cycling home and they come round a blind bend at 60 only to find themselves on your side of the road, a bike in front of them and nowhere to go - wakners the lot of them.
Going out for a ride to calm down.

We are talking about "Chelsea Tractor" syndrome (4.6L HSE Range Rovers, X5'S ETC who, if they ever go offroad, it's just for a bit of titliation), not people who actually need a practical 4WD(which is a tiny minority of 4WD owners). I think you know this anyway.

I do know this, however, your statement was a sweeping generalisation the type of which encourages some idiots to snap windscreen wipers and let tyres down on 4WDs owned by "people who actually need a practical 4WD". I am sure that you would be pretty pissed off if Jane's car tyres had been let down in Sheffield (as they have) with a nice note saying it is clogging up the cities roads, when your partner went into labour - "sorry will be there in an hour or so when I have pumped up the tyres!!". The irony is we seldom go into Sheff but they seldom target the public school run mums because they fight back.
Think you need to check your topography - East Anglia, Lincolnshire most of the South East are all well under 1200ft above sea level.

I do feel that the vast majority of oversized 4WD cars are unnecessary. I live in what some people consider to be an affluent part of the country. These cars are very common in this region and judging by their pristine condition, never get further offroad than a grass verge outside a school.

Not sure thats true, or there would be very little in the way of styling differences between cars and they'd all come in one colour - the consumer would just want a cheap and effective car regardless of shape and colour.
Most people develop an attachment to their car, are protective of it and enjoy the way it looks. Whether they care if someone else likes it is another matter.

I did a little looking into the figures for this and actually a lot of the larger 4x4s impacting pedestrians at the same speed offer some advantages to the pedestrian, namely that they dont generally end up with the head impacting a hard zone such as the base of the windscreen or the windscreen itself - they tend to hit the bonnet which is a LOT softer. Admittedly they have negatives too
I'm not totally against 4x4s, coming from a "proper user" family (large trailer to tow fairly regularly) it makes sense to own one, but it doesnt stop the morons leaving notes and having a totally unacceptable attitute towards you because they *assume* you only use it on the road to go to the shops.
It seems to me that the general public seem to have some sort of assumption of a right to abuse people that they dont know based on the car they appear in at the time. Quite frankly I find that pathetic.

Audis are IT salesmen's cars, with mandatory bluetooth headset, lights on all the time, driving agressively close to everything else on the road (except the really tall ones which are driven by quite petite women with a 3 year old somewhere in the back, touch driving down wide roads before parking on zigzag yellow lines outside chumley's school.

And if you keep your 4x4 clean and tidy and use it one morning to go to Asda you dont expect (well you do now) to be confronted by an eco-hippie demanding you sell your car and buy a small tin box because its clearly never used offroad and you cant possibly justify it.

Tut tut, sweeping generalisations heaped on yet more sweeping generalisations.
People buy cars for all sorts of reasons. Some for daily basic transport some for image some because they need to get to 1200 foot plus in the depths of winter and all sorts of other reasons ('it was £500 mister and that's all I had').
Me? I like a big comfy motah, I don't need a big comfy motah. I've had all sorts inc Audi/BMW etc (but no horrible 4x4's :lol:) and at times, have driven like a c0ck, but most of the time tool around slightly sluggishly. I must be sluggardly as I get very high 40 mpg's out of my 2.7 A6 (saloon so it wasn't me the OP was moaning about).
I can't say that my c0ck exploits have been exclusively in German tackle as I've managed to misbehave in French, British and Jap kit on occasion too. Though as I say, cured now
Personally, I couldn't give a toss if Jeremy Toss Pot Clarkson suddenly decides all blah blah drivers are c0cks. Even though he can be quite entertaining he surely must epitomise the breed and anything he says is FOR THE PURPOSE OF ENTERTAINMENT...

Come off it - look at the pedestrian fatality rates - higher for 4x4s than for ordinary cars. 4x4 drivers are more likely to be involved in an accident, and are more likely to be at fault than the average for all cars.

I find the car is in it's element when you melt into the seats, select a big gear and let the world fight around you.
Not saying this applies to you but I do thik this is part of the problem. Everything is so calm and isolating from the inside that you forget what it's like to be outside of it. Having just replaced a Ka with a C-max (not the same thing as an Audi I know) but just being so much smoother, comfier and refined means I'm probably too relaxed and chilled out behind the wheel.
I think the dirvers of the big german cars feel like they're just ghosting around in totla serenity and silence doing the world no harm whereas on the outside they're ultimate in giant sized aggression!
(Would totally get an A6 Avant in a heart beat if I could afford one)

I would agree with you on most of those except the xc90 as it is a proper alternative to the van like mpvs if you want to seat more than 5 with out being huge and a rav4 is not big nor does it use a lot of fuel in fact in that company its more like a mini.
