    Savant Users,

I’ve just got a Giro Savant Helmet and I’m having real issues with the strap. It’s either uncomfortably twisted under my ears, which is annoying and yet, to avoid that twist issue, i end up with excessive slack between the non clicking part of the under chin fastener and the under ear adjustment clasp.

Yes the strap is enormous on the under chin fastening side, yet it’s the other non clicking side that’s the main issue here.

The helmet otherwise fits great. Just wondering if there’s a fault or work around before i give up and send it back.

Erm, I’ve got a Savant and it’s the most comfortable helmet I’ve ever owned.
It shouldn’t be twisted under your ears at all.

I am not quite sure I understand where the issue is coming from?

So, you have plonked it on your head and twiddled the rear dial to get it snug?
Undone the side clasps to adjust the under ear position of the straps? But with them in the right position, there is too much material on the side of the strap that you can’t adjust to pull through the excess?

On mine, there is a load of excess strap on the adjustable side of the chin clip that I keep meaning to trim down, but I’ve not had an issue setting it up.
I can take another look this evening, but I can’t visualise what you mean (unless it’s what I say above about there being too much non-adjustable material on one side…..?)

Thanks for the feedback, i’ve uploaded a photo. It’s the other side of the strap as shown. This is with my best efforts to remove the twist near my ear. As you can see (and it’s as bad as this fitted on my head) there is loads of excess strap flapping about between the under ear adjustment and the female end of the chin clasp.

When it’s fitted i get a big dangling loop of strap swell as the massively long chin strap excess that could be trimmed down.

    First off…fixed pic link:

    Secondly…

I’m looking at my Savant now, and I can’t really see any difference to mine…..which is fine. I did cut the male clasp side strap down, as Giro straps are always too long. If you do this, make sure you burn the ends, to stop any fraying later on.

Sorry if this is not that clear. Can you see the excess loop between my fingers and the ear adjustment clasp. That’s what it’s like under my chin. I really need that area to be flat / tighter, yet doing so makes a big twist near my ear, which is annoying and uncomfortable.

I guess it’s just a case of live with or not. Compared to my previous specialised helmet straps (completely flat in this area with no twists) this is something that i suspect will be intolerable for me. A shame as the helmet is otherwise much nicer.

doesn’t the strap pull through at the back of the helmet? I cant remember exactly without looking at mine.

Weird – I see what you mean about the loop between your fingers in the pic and the clasp that sits below your ears. But, I don’t think it looks excessive in terms of the length of it. Like I say, I can check mine when I get home for comparison.

The twisting thing is odd too….when the buckle is in position, all the straps should lay flat against your face. There shouldn’t be any twist required to get them to do this and that excess of strap shouldn’t make any difference to that; either the straps sit flat or they are twisted.
If they have a twist in them that can’t be undone, then perhaps one end of the strap has been sown/fastened incorrectly at the factory…? Normally when there is a twist in the straps, there are always two so you can untwiddle them and they sit flat. Is this not the case?

From your image, if you imagined rotating your fingers so the buckle sits in the same orientation to the side clasp (rather than at 90degrees to it), do the straps not sit flat? it looks like they should do…

As jam bo said. Adjust, then pull through the back to equalise. The straps are only fixed at the 2 front positions. Rest is floating for you to adjust to suit.

I also cannot see a twist in that pic either

Ok here’s a trick I learnt from a shop. It may or may not solve your problem, take a strap in each hand above the clasp and pull the straps apart it sort of un twists the strap and pulls them flat. It’s a bit difficult to describe, but I had a similar problem and the shop said a lot of them come through like that due to the way they are packaged. They were told this little gem by a guy from Giro at a show.
