We went out on Monday for some fun in the snow - but ended up in the pub drinking wine as it was just such hard work. It was either sheet ice, or rock hard snow!!

Sunset was good though!

Good weather though. Conditions better for hiking maybe.
Where's that then - Eden Valley somewhere?
Been in cumbria for 34yrs and never heard anyone say 'gay slape' before.
I presume gay is another way of saying very. But what is slape?
Slape = slippy, same word in Swaledale
slape is slippy
thes bin ere ivver lang nut t'uv eard ut something bin gay something
"He's a gay big lad" would be a good way to describe a tall strapping chap - open to misinterpretation and a 'clip roont keppard' though.
As i said i know of the term gay being used but never slape.
Another lesson learnt
There's a place called Slapestones just off the A66 east of Penrith too I think (and a gallery in Grasmere)
I've only lived here 9 years and I've heard it plenty - well, when something is slippy obviously!!
It was such a beautiful day - seemed a shame to make such slow progress. We met some walkers and they agreed, everything was taking 2-3 times longer than usual!!!
The route was from Penrith up towards Helton/Askham by the way ;-D
Slape is fairly local to the Penrith area from my experience. There's a Slapestones roundabout not too far from Greystoke. It's usually used by people who also use a sharp intake of breath as a pause in a sentence.
Nice photos Clare, looks like a good if slow day

How do you know that?
Do you stand by the road and watch them as they drive up to it??
Heh heh
