Staying near Lochinver and have a day to go play at some point this week. Originally had planned to do the Arkle loop but Lochinver to Elphin (and back via road) looks interesting and will also go into some spectacular scenery and involve an hour less driving at either end (and perhaps less hike a bike, which would be a big bonus). Anyone done both any got any views or any other recommendations?

Lochinver to Elphin via Glen Canisp? (he asks in a theatrical over the top sinister way)

Yep, via Glencanisp (worries about sinister voice..)

Have done the arkle loop, pray for drought. Features a landrover track that defies gravity. Great scenery but not much techy fun riding. As for the lochinver/elphin route, have not done it, have checked it out on aerial photos and am not so sure that it will not turn into a sufferfest. Interested to hear how you get on.

Your two options seem to be regarded as the crux sections of the Highland Trail hence the sinister voice. Glen Canisp is reckoned to be three to four hours of hike a bike.

Aha, looks like Glencanisp will be mostly dragging a bike through a bog then.
