4yrs old and never serviced rev duel airs. opened them up and the right hand leg was covered in a lot of solid black stuff. underneath the blackstuff the metal is pitted and corroded.
will be putting them back together for a try but can i get new uppers from anywhere and how much?

you can get new uppers but its usually barely worth it as they are in the region of a couple of hundred pounds. check with one of the specialists such as Loco

Had a similar thing happen to my Pikes – not serviced, so they ran dry and got really bad stanchion wear. IIRC it was about £270 for new stanchions.

Sell them as spares or repair but if they dont pack down/lose travel keep riding them for now IMO.

I’d rather spend £270 towards new forks that wont need a proper service as well ontop (probably another £100 to include full seals etc I bet).

Buy new when they fubar up and sell them as spares or repair on ebay.

I did this with some old Pikes that looked like they’d been chucked repeatdly down a coal cellar and got almost £200 for them!!

cheers thought as much, not going to spend that much on a repair. hopefully they will still work for a while after i put them back together.

+1 for hora, someone might have decent uppers and wrecked their lowers in a crash and have just baulked at the price of new lowers.

Revs are often only £300 new from Merlin, On One etc.

My Rev U-Turns from 2007 just got a refusal from SRAM – they wouldn’t service them due to the level of corrosion inside, but they’re still working, so I’m going to ride them until they seize up while I save for a new set.

is it worth the trouble of doing the nail polish trick on the pitted parts of just put back together as is.

Remember that if the fork legs are badly worn there’s probably matching wear on the bushings as well. I’d not be spending a penny on them past trying new fluids and just seeing what happens, good condition used Revs make more sense and there’s no shortage.

My rev uppers are pitted in rings after a period of neglect, but with fresh fluids they work fine so I’m not that bothered right now – in fact it’s probably saving me money as instead of getting them properly serviced every once or twice a year I just change the oil in them fairly frequently and they still seem to work.

One of these days I’ll pony up and get some new forks, but for now they may be knackered but they’re still soldiering on…

These are prime candidates for Frankenstein forks.

Let’s experiment and tinker.. I wonder which other uppers would work?

Failing that convert them to coils

already got new dust seals to go in and need to buy fluid, 20odd bucks all in is as far as im going with them.
