Only asking as my Nexus 5 charges quicker on different leads ?
are they rated to a certain charge rate ?

“no, they aren’t” is the short answer. The long answer is a bit complicated.

Simplifying a little, there’s a ‘fast charge’ wiring which will, well, charge faster on devices designed for it, and considerably slower / not at all on ones that aren’t.

    Unidirectional deoxygenated copper I expect.

Longer leads and/or thinner gauge wire will cause a voltage drop which will slow charging down.

I’ve had the same experience – funnily, I only ever buy dirt cheap leads and some obviously do have whatever special unicorn hair needs to be inside
