Even worse than Brexit doomsday forecast – the weather.

But at least the motorways were empty as a result of the dire warnings of impending doom. Record 300+ miles with the quietest M6 ever seen – even Cheshire and S Lancs

Every news item has to be so massively exaggerated these days !!!

must admit i just had a ride out in the woods (west yorks) and was dissapointed by the snow, was only an inch deep at best. not much to even loose the back end

Read last nights (London) evening standard – it spends about 250 words telling of -13, deep and drifting snow followed by ice. The last 50 words then points out this was for combination of Highlands, Midlands and Wales, and London would be 1*c and rain.

I bet most wouldn’t read to the end, and even if they did the ‘PANIC’ seed is sown…

Set off at 07:00 thus morning to (even) R4 telling us that driving was foolhardy. Had visions of being stuck N of Preston. Very skiddy here but that’s on a very steep driveway

As well as over sensationalisation, the other annoying trend is the TV/radio telling us what somebody is going to announce, later that day.
(Well after they’ve announced it to the media)

Pity nobody told the whole of the south-west who’ve been clogging up the M5 from Exeter/Taunton northwards, then.
The traffic, all three lanes, has ground to a complete halt at every junction and service area, and has been crawling along at a maximum of 60 everywhere else. I’ve been losing the will to live for the last three days driving back from South Devon and Cornwall.
Southbound has been pretty busy, too.

The news is entertainment, weather is part of the news. If it’s not hyperbolic then it’s just not sexy or re-tweet worthy.

I got the train as the road outside the house was a sheet of ice covered in rain water. Like walking on fiary liquid covered glass

Sounds pretty standard for j25 northwards. Pretty quiet in Devon now all the xmas holidayers have gone home.

My favourite was when a few years ago when the news declared the snow to be treacherous and interviewed a guy who refused to take it seriously. It’s just a bit of snow was his response and he was right. It always seems like an American thing that’s slowly worked its way in to our news.

Not a lot of real news over the festive period.

Was snowing pretty hard this morning, cleared the car for the missus, drove it round the block and came back inside to hand over, 5 minutes tops and it was an inch thick all over again.

Roads north and east were closed so she couldn’t get to work. By this afternoon it was raining and mostly gone 🙁
