I just like the look of it. It reminds me of my old High Roller SS which I ran with a Bling Bling on the front. Damn it was fast.

As much as I’d love to slide around in the mud with spikes on, all of our local trails are hardpacked or man made. I think I could get away with an early switch to a rear Slaughter and Butcher front.

I like my current Purgatory’s but they’re past their best. I’ll happily have another pair unless the Butcher/Slaughter combo is in stock when I drive past Evans on Friday. Never been disappointed by Spesh tyres yet.

Just taken a Slaughter of the back of Abigales and put a Purgatory on till the mud clears up, it was good and fast on the downs but no traction on the mudy ups.

Have used Butcher/Slaughter for uplift at BPW and dry days at the likes of Afan and Cwm Carn.

As above, fast on the way down, but not a traction tyre.

Also, when pushing it hard at BPW, it had a lovely way of breaking loose just a little bit for maximal schralpage! 🙂

The wife’s been using Butcher/Slaughter all year
They’re mint for everything (if a bit loose on fast muddy downs)
Only trouble she’s had is punctures on fast rocks
Not much grip difference between the Slaughter & Purgatory

I ran the Slaughter until October at which point some of my local trails were just way too muddy for it. Will go back on when things dry up ran it with a butcher front might try it with a 2.4 HR II for this summer.

If you are on hardpack/man made then the slaughter will be fine. Even with its low centre tread, there is still a fair bit of traction. I would recomend the Grid Versions, as the butcher then comes in the softer 42a compound and the rear with more puncture protection.

How much larger does the slaughter come up than a purgatory? As I can fit a purgatory in the rear end but not a 2.3 hr2 and I fancy something faster rolling for summer.

We put one at the side of the other on same width rims and there is not a lot of difference in the width. Still narrower than the Butcher. Will be putting it back on once the trails dry a bit

Good fun I thought but I didn’t get on with it… Maybe if you live somewhere really dry? But even then there’s not much pedalling grip, I thought it’d climb well on rocks but it still spins out really easily. OTOH the lack of braking grip is pretty funny on steep wet stuff. “You were really committed there” “No I wasn’t! I was trying to stop the entire time!”.

It’s not that much faster rolling than, say, an ardent. More cornering grip than an ardent mind but it’s kind of harder to get at? I struggle to commit to a turn when there’s so little grip immediately before, even though it’ll be there when I lean, it’s unnerving. If you can get past that it’ll probably work better.

I think it’s worth a try. I might go from control to grid as well. Loathe as I am to fit heavier tyres I find my current ones a bit squirmy when you really lean on them.

I switch between a slaughter in the summer and a purgatory in the winter. Its a bit too muddy where I ride for the slaughter until it dries out

I had a demo specialised enduro at the weekend just gone and it had a butcher/slaughter combo and I took it the wyre forest. I expected to die and actually I didnt. Certainly not a mud tyre but I’d definitely consider one for drier weather or hard pack. Bought a pair of storm controls for this coming weekend, cant wait for some proper traction!

I used one up till about October, i really like it and will stick it back on if it ever gets drier again. No good for me on the steep stuff through winter.
Iv’e just bought one for the girlfriend for the rear of her HT and a Butcher for the front.
