  • Anyone use Skype at work for internal calls?

Having used Skype for me big sis in Oz and the parents in Espain, I got to thinking. At work, we have 80 locations around the North, all with pc and broadband. Most of our calls will be shop to shop or shop to HO. Should we be using Skype rather than traditional phone? Are there any disadvantages, pitfalls etc? Are there any alternatives to Skype? Any other advice?

    Thanks

The disdvantage is that you have to be tethered to a computer or use a smart phone with it on. You also need to be online all the time.
I’d be surprised if your company didn’t have inclusive calls as part of their telco contract, so it may not save them much if anything.

Skype works best with headphones, so it may be impractical.
Also, the PC ringing tone may be inaudible in a shop. But there’s no reason not to have skype as an IM & phone channel as an extra.
If you don’t have inclusive calls it may save you some money, I guess.
