  • Anyone sheared tabs off a Shimano SLX Chainset??

Out last night on the usual Thurs evening ride, on the way home I came up to a set of lights on red. Decided to trackstand, they changed to green and as I peddled off there was a crack sound!! Thought I’d snapped the chain, but on closer inspection two of the tabs that hold the middle/outer chain ring’s on have sheared off ❓

Chainset is just over 18 months old. Yeah it gets a lot of use but I’ve never knowingly hit anything hard enough with it that would require either the chain or the chainring being replaced.

Unlucky, fatigue, wear and tear or other??

    Cheers

Fatigue I reckon. I snapped 2 tabs off and twisted a third along with ovalising the chainring on my 2 year old XT ones doing a bit of a thrutch move on a steep climb. Sometimes stuff just breaks.

Had that happen to me after a year of riding. Two of the chainring bolts had become loose and a bit of pressure on the pedals and snap. Took the opportunity to upgrade 🙂
