  • Anyone running a 100mm fork on a 456 summer season?

I've currently got 120mm on it, with a shortish 70mm stem and while its good on swooping descents, its a bit like a barge on switchbacks and tight twisty stuff.

I know the clue is the '456' but could I even run 80mm up front?

My riding buddy runs a pair of On One carbon rigid's on his – which I think are eqivilent to 100mm.

The ss was designed to run 4" forks

I have a summer season with 100mm forks and a 70mm stem. Doesn't feel like a barge at all and runs fine.

Why not exchange them for some adjustable forks ie Talas 80/100/130, then you've got 2 bikes.

Got Pikes on mine and tend to run at 100mm for general riding.

If I know that the trail goes down for a long time then I like to wind them out to 140mm.

If I had a choice I would look at adjustable forks as per Mr Nana, if I had to choose between 100mm or 140mm then 100mm would get my vote.

They're Marzocchi MX Comps – I think Marz were quite long for their travel?

I have some Rebas I could space down to 100 or 80mm.

80mm I think, but I'm riding with him this evening, so I'll check.

its a barge as it has a massive wheelbase.

if you want it sharper in twisty stuff its new frame time.

I've just built one up with 100mm bombers on and 50mm stem. Not ridden it in anger yet but it feels fine on the car park test.

Van Halen – Suggest a frame then that will give a shorter wheelbase?

Can someone tell me the wheelbase of a normal 18" 456 with a 120mm fork as a comparison to my SS?

Think I probably just need to improve my riding most of all tho….
