Heading off there this week for a city break.

Obviously there’s loads of tourist guides online, but anyone been or know what are the must-dos if only there for a few days? Interested in museums, etc. but also the quirky stuff that gives you a better ‘feel’ of a city.

Moderna Museet is incredible. The grounds are almost as beautiful as the place itself and worth a walk. If it’s still there, have at look at the sailing ship Af Chapman, moored nearby.

Also check out the Viking rooms in the Museum of Sweden.

NK is the big old department store and worth a bit of window shopping.

Sodermalm for the quirky shops and cafes.

I’ve only been there once but if I went back I would do the harbour tour again and just wander around Gamla Stan for half a day

The open air museum is good but now might not be the weather. All the museums have whhel chairs which is nice if you are a little bit accident prone like me!! Vasa is cool, my 5 year old like The Armoury and the Viking museum.

Vasa museum is a must. Gamla Stan is cool.
    Some good restaurants:
Grill – interesting decor, good steaks and a good craft beer selection.
Grill Ruby – bistro type place, nice food and beer.
Farang – amazing asian fusion restaurant, not cheap, book now if you want to go…

    Bars:
Flying Dog have an impressive beer selection
Bishops Arms is a typical British boozer
Ardbeg Embassy in Gamla Stan is a dangerous place if you like whisky…:-)

Great ice cream parlour on Sodermalm. This may be an odd recommendation for this time of year, but it is very good ice cream.

Also, another vote for the Vasa.

    Wasa museum +1

Abba museum on Djurgarden if that floats your boat.

Systembolaget off-licences close at 8pm and Friday evening around 7:30pm can get a bit hectic
Canal cruise if you have a couple of hours to spare

Spent three days there in the summer with my wife. We had our bikes and it was a good place to cycle. We definitely felt cycling around was the best way to see the city.

Boat cruise around the archipeligo – particularly the day after midsummer night as a post-bender hangover cure!

Djurgarden, boat trip, meal at Bakfikan, Skansen, National Art gallery, wandering around Sodermalm, Skogskyrkogården, gig at Debaser etc etc.

Get a Stockholm travel card for the days you are there, covers buses, trains, tubes and museums, well worth it.
