Had my Fox flux since 2007 and wondered if the padding degrades over time? Never had a knock or crash to it, but a mate of mine reckons certain types can. Anyone know?

    two schools of thought.

Personally I destroy my helmets after 5 or 6 years and replace.
There was a long debate in here a while ago but I think it was pre hack.

    EDIT

There are many theories regarding when you should replace your helmet – which is why MET decided to answer the question by testing their own models. And the result? For eight years a MET helmet will do its job just fine, as long as you don’t damage it in a crash.

Giro recommend change your helmet every three years

As do Kask and Bell. On one hand they would say that, on the other they do degrade from wear and tear, exposure to sun, heat , rain etc. So probably worth doing after 5 years.

3 to 5 years, if stored properly. Or, one big stack.

3 years seems to be the view or a blow to the helmet.

Ultraviolet, heat/cold, sweat etc will all degrade the helmet over time.

according to some people, the polystyrene degrades over time so I would probably change your helmet at least every three years. hardly a big investment.
