Looking at doing a wine run through the Eurotunnel to stock up.

On the HMRC website it states that the normal limit for importing wine from the EU into the UK is 90 litres and that additional questions may be asked if you bring back more than this.

However, it is not clear if they mean in 1 vehicle or per person.

If the Mrs and me are in the car would 180 litres of wine be OK? Or would they start getting heavy on us?

I know it’s a lot of wine but just want to get the best value out of a trip!

It’s described as a personal limit so I would imagine that would mean 90 litres per adult.

I would contact HMRC before you go – http://search2.hmrc.gov.uk/kb5/hmrc/contactus/view.page?record=iQ9MFQAxnZk

180 bottles of wine, sure your car can take it?

180 bottles will be approx 225-230kg, so roughly equivalent to a couple of 17stone blokes sat in the back.
I’d say unless your in a tiny car that should be fine.

90 litres per person is where they would start to ask questions. There’s no actual limit on the amount you can bring back, as long as it’s for personal use or gifts.

90 litres is 120 750ml bottles of wine. 240 bottles is a lot of wine.

EDIT: I like Calais Vin as a place to buy cases. English speaking and you’re able to try small samples
