anyone in a running club? I’ve got an event to train for e.g. 10k fun run
I’d like to run frequently but struggle with motivation. It’s easy to not bother when you get in late from work an it’s cold and raining
Has anyone joined a running club to help get motivated ?

Yeah go for it … there’s bound to be one or two close to you.

Give them a try… they are, IMHO, cheap and cheerful 😆

That should have started with “I only run if I have an event to train for e.g. 10k…”

As a newcomer to running I found the Parkruns that are all over the country to be welcoming and inclusive – whatever your experience. Usually happen once a week on a Saturday, but you might meet people who you can run with more often. It definitely motivated me to run more.

If there’s one thing that’ll help get you fitter, it’s joining a club:
    a) no need to self-motivate – it’s much more social
    b) running with people faster than you means you push yourself harder
    c) likely to go out running more often
    d) speed training sessions likely to be available
    e) learn from years of others’ experience
    f) pick up good habits re training and diet

yes, and broess has hit it all on the head. its all the above.

i joined my local one just after xmas, just really to get some motivation to train for the club tri i entered, and its now one of those things i wish i had done years ago.

do it. and don’t be afraid as i was of it being the domain of the uber-fit, if its anything like mine its all very normal.

Yep the UK Athletic club network is fantastic.

If you struggle to motivate yourself to run however I suspect it will only be a short term boost.

I’ve gone on runs with our local club, and whilst the fast group was seriously fast, the slower group was pretty slow, so I wouldn’t worry about being able to keep up.
