Anyone had an MI?

Probably ask a dr rather than an MTB forum, but if it was sharp in nature, worse on movement or inspiration and didn't radiate the its probably just muscular. That said, its worth getting it checked.

Care to divulge any more detail DS - not Dr's but meehaja and I tend to see them fairly regularly?
Edit: email in profile if you'd prefer

I don't mind divulging on here. I do suffer from anxiety however this was REAL.
Not a pain really and nothing in left arm or jaw but it really shocked me.
Hard to describe TBH but very worrying. Best way to describe would be a breath taking whoosh in the chest and a momentary head swish. I was talking to someone at the time and he didnt say i looked odd. But I felt it.Posted 11 months ago # -
Did you have a sense of impending doom?
I've always like that one.. Although scarily it's often true. Fact.Posted 11 months ago # -
Did you have a sense of impending doom?
I have actually heard a trainee doc say those exact words to a patient
DS - sounds like wind but probably worth getting a check-up to put your mind at rest. FWIW, I've never had a patient having an MI describe it as a 'whoosh and head swish'.

Sounds anxiety related.
I've had that feeling fairly often

derek_starship - that is a very good way of describing one of the feelings I got whe nmy anxiety was at its worst. It is very unsettling when it happens and I too thought it was heart related, but it turned out not to be. Got the anxiety sorted and have never had the problem since.

Age?
Cholesterol HDL Ratio?
Systolic BP?
Smoking Status?Posted 11 months ago # -
I love hearing the ansaphone message in the cardio rehab nurses office, always reminds me how people will do anything to avoid getting a proper answer when they think they may have a very serious question...
"Hi, you're through to Cardiac Rehab, if you have chest pain, hang up now and dial 999, ..." etc
Posted 11 months ago # -
Are you serious Charlie?
It's the internet, not a GP surgery/A+E Dept. The OP has had a fleeting pain/sensation and you start with those questions! Sheesh
Posted 11 months ago # -
Surely anyone can answer those questions? Not difficult.
BTW, our builder had sharp chest pains which he put down to indigestion. Turned out to be a minor heart attack, and he dropped dead from a big one two weeks later.
You might end up spending a boring hour at A+E, but it only takes 10 minutes for them to run a quick ECG.

Really? How many people on here could tell me their current BP and/or cholesterol level. I know I couldn't.

Don't your GPs offer the tests for free if you go in for almost anything else? It's in their interest to keep you vaguely healthy, and the tests take minutes to complete. Loads of people have home blood pressure monitors which, though inaccurate, will give a ballpark figure.
Most health insurance schemes will insist on a cholesterol measurement and it's a useful figure to have.
I don't know about you but I was able to remember my age and whether or not I smoke the last time I tried.

I struggle to work out my age sometimes...
As for the rest - not a clue!

I did once book myself into A&E thinking I'd had a minor heart attack - left side of my chest went into spasm on a training ride, and felt like my heart had turned inside out. After the event, all the intercostal muscles were torn on the Left side of my chest after it - like I'd done some massive one armed bench press and ripped everything.
Turned out it was stress related - quite scary at the time - I stopped and told my fellow riders - 'I think I'm having a heart attack' and off to A&E it was....

That's why it's been suggested that the OP goes to his GP for a check-up as he is obviously concerned. There are way too many questions and variables to make a diagnosis on here. How are you today Mr Starship?

I'm fine thanks. BP two weeks ago @ GP was 133/82. My last fasting cholesterol was 3.8.
I smoke about five fags a day.Posted 11 months ago # -
Your BP is from 2 weeks ago though. As the pain has now gone I suggest you see your GP tomorrow if possible and talk to them.

Overall the risk of Cardio-vascular disease over the next ten years for people like you is pretty low. You could furtehr reduce the risk by changing sex or stopping smoking
