Just for the expenses bit. What's a good amount to say for using your home as office? Also for travel expenses? I don't have any petrol receipts for this though.

These days about £1 per week...
And travel at 40ppm (although you need receipts to get the VAT element - 1ppm).
Why are you rushing with your tax return, you've got until Sunday

i think ir35.com or something like that is good, I do 40p/mile without receipts up to 10,000 miles should be on HMRC somwhere then 12p/mile after

Home office - I was told divide each utilties billl by the number of rooms you have (excluding bathroom) and use that amount. Am sure others do different.

Tax is calculated as 1,932.12 Do I have to pay it all at once?

Yup. Plus 50% on top for your first instalment for 09/10.

Ahhhh why? that's rubbish. Tax definitely is taxing

Thems the rules. Unless most of your income is taxed at source (paye) you have to pay your tax In the year of assessment based on the previous years assessment. I guess that this is your first year paying under SA so you've got year 1's tax to pay (as you didn't pay in-year) plus your first instalment for year 2 b You can apply to postpone some or all of it but then you'll need to pay interest. And it's not advised if you know you are going to have tax to pay
