This years Big Bike Bash is trying to promote the amazing facilities and right at the moment we have more off-road wheel chairs, guided bikes etc than people to use them.

Great opportunity for people to get away for a weekend as a family and all do stuff together.

Any specific requirements then please contact Avon Tyrrell and tell them you want to come to the Big Bike Bash

    Hi
My son has cerebral palsy and has quite limited movement. He is 13yrs old and would love to ride a bike, or experience it somehow, but unfortunately, due to his balance/limitations he is unable to do so. It mainly affects his legs but he has some issues with his left arm, also he was born with some digits missing from his left hand (to further compound his problems).
I am trying to think of ways to get him on a bike but have not thought of anything suitable yet. As you can imagine, with him being a teenager, he does not want to be in a towed buggy type thing.
Also we are on holiday when the BBB is on.
    Any ideas??
    Cheers

The big bike bash ‘borrows’ Avon Tyrrell . It is there all year round. It it perfect for what you describe.

Phone or email them. Tell the Nick from the BBB sent you but you can’t make the Bash but still want to experience what they have got and they will sort you out.

It really is an amazing place and what they allow / enable people to do is so inspiring that I actually still do the BBB which was only ever a one off event originally.

Please email me in the morning and I will give you some contacts there. Louis is a bike guy and will make everything great for you I am sure.

    Wow that is great.
Thank you so much. I will email you from home (I’m at work now)tomo lunchtime. I ride bikes quite a lot and to involve my boy would be awesome, for him and me! We are fortunate as his CP is quite mild, he attends mainstream school etc so no major issues, I know other kids with CP are not so fortunate.
    Again thanks so much.
I noticed you said your Brother had CP?

marco – have a look here for inclusive cycling opportunities UK wide:
    http://www.ctc.org.uk/ride/inclusive-cycling

Also, if you can’t make the BBB, feel free to contact me at Avon Tyrrell and I’ll put you in touch with our instructors Alex and Matt who run the all ability bike fleet (we have about 6, some doubles, some power assisted plus 3 BOMA off road electric buggies (WCA can confirm what these are like). We have also just added a 2km loop to the trails specifically for the all ability bikes.
    cheers

Great idea for involvement. MrsMC has limited use of her left arm and leg due to cerebal palsy. She can ride easy stuff on a bike but standover and controls always need to be right for her.

She loves the greens at Glentress, though Hicks Lodge apparently has too many tight left hand berms!

Marco – The Louis I mentioned posts on here as Avon Tyrrell and has replied above. Top bloke and will know the facts about the different equipment they have there and what is best for what.

Link to their equipment page : http://www.avontyrrell.org.uk/page/details%20of%20specialised%20equipment.html

MoreCashThanDash – Come on down to the BBB, there is stuff there for most levels and they have just put in some extra accessibility trails although it sounds like your Mrs is more advanced than those.

Marco, Charlotte’s Tandems may be able to help get your boy cycling.

MoreCashThanDash – Google last years event. I don’t know how old your kids are but they are old enough.

We had a 4 year old doing the lake jump last year!

Everyone – Spread the word about the extra access facilities. Lets make this a fully integrated event like the Common Wealth games were!
