as above – my older xbox has started having issues with the drive not reading / freezing on games – it seems to be a common thing so i believe by reading on the net – I have taken it apart and exposed the drive -anyone done it here? looks like I need a new drive ( off ebay ) and either get the drive flashed to match the xbox – or i get the solder iron out and solder / transplant the old dvd drive pcb to the new one…

should be ok…. wish me luck

i chipped my 360, which i think involves a bit of the work you need to do, as that is essentially flashing the dvd firmware.

bit of a faff to be honest, needing special sata card etc, and depending on the drive model you have, it can be more fiddly.

Still, if you are half compentant with a PC, there are plenty of guides out there, but if not, i’d suggest sending it off to one of the many 3rd party places that will do the job for you.
