We have a house with electric UFH in the downstairs bathroom which forms nearly 50% of the downstairs heating (upside down house). When we’re away it is switched off and it would be great to be able to switch it on remotely the day before we head down there to give it time to heat up.

I’m currently looking at using a Raspberry Pi (already there monitoring hot water temperature) linked to a 4 unit relay block to switch heated towel rails on and off so they’re not on overnight. I could use this as the power supply to the UFH is very close, but switching the UFH power off completely and then back on again will not put the digital controller into ‘heating’ mode.
One option is to change the digital controller for a simple thermostat and let the Pi do the timing but this does not allow different floor temperatures between morning, afternoon, evening and overnight.

Edit: just found the Heatmiser PRT-E-TS WIFI but at £150+ I’ll not bother 🙁
