27.2mm seat tube: not much choice of droppers. I want my next bike to have a dropper.

Wow… The ride is great. Previously I had ridden a medium which was too small. The XL is spot on.

Found some mystical text on the tyre bead: “Wizard speak knowledge bomb – put the tyre down and pick up a beer”

The extra chunky ESI grips do what they say
The bars are massive, but right
Gusset nitro pedals are really nice
16+ year old race race face seat posts are still great.
Reflective rim tape makes me look like something from Tron

    Mines pretty much finished.

Got to shorten brake hoses, change stem, swap crank over and change seat.

Had a maiden voyage today, fantastic. Taking it to Dalbeattie on Sunday for a proper workout!

the red detailing is working well gents

Charlie’s front skewer is showing tho

mrlugz needs to get the reflective rim tape, that’s a big win

Thanks mattjg… And mr lugz cleans his kitchen floor more often than I clean my shop.

But mr lugz, get the safety sticker off the seat tube. And what’s the orange thing in the seat stay?

Reflective tape, cheap, colour options and by the metre here… http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221188866742?var=520134426176&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

Been some facebook group chat on the tube front. Surly 29×3 tubes are 400g, but folk have been using regular 29er tubes for a 400g saving.

    Out of curiosity.

    Left to right:
29×3 Knard on 50mm with magic rim tape
    26×3.8 Knard on 80mm rim
And 2.4 Ralph on a dt Swiss 29er

I think he’ll be finishing it off as I type! Lovely paint job on it too – something that you don’t really see in these pics.

Tyre pressure is important, lower is better.

I will be at Afan all weekend Getting some proper miles in.

And my head badge is crooked.

**** SV19 TUBES **** just been experimenting using normal tubes.

the area around the valve where you have the patch that reinforces this area… wont stretch enough to fill the tyre. You get a baggy area of tyre here, unless you put mega psi in, which makes the tyre too hard.

so who makes the fattest presta 29er tube (other than the surly)?

    mattjg

ah you lot are still debugging this bike – or at least finding how to make best of it. Perhaps it’s no bad thing to wait for round 2.

and did I read somewhere there’s a significantly lighter version of the tyre coming sometime? or has that arrived now?

    mrlugz

    safety sticker now removed 😛

I do like the reflective rim tape, though I have gone for a ‘semi-stealth’ approach.

The orange bits are the i-link boots, stops the chinking noise.

I had a bit slop around on a muddy hill last night, and lower is definatley better on the pressure front. 20 psi offered very little grip on a greasy climb, and a 36T front with a 34T on the back ring is too big for me. In the manual it says a 34 is the biggest that will fit, but a 36 on a truvativ stylo crankset fits.

There is a reason my kitchen floor is so clean, something to do with angle grinders and cold garages. 😉

Having a local ride out in the woods with the club tonight, I’ll see how it fairs against the regulars.

Can do you a small build kit now, or a medium complete in late April.

Thanks Charlie I really think I want a ride-for-sizing before I drop any cash, and unfortunately I’m not cart-horse sized so your demo’s not much use to me.

I’m booked for SSUK so if anyone’s down there with a small or medium that time I’d appreciate a 15 min spin on it.
