Did a guided tour of my favourite bits for a forum member last Thurs evening. I'm sure there's plenty of stuff I don't know about yet but it seemed to go down OK. A charge of £400 was levied for this service (though a SC Heckler frame was included as a gift).

I could probably be persuaded to meet up there. I'm not completely familiar with all of the XC stuff but do know most of the DH stuff. Also helped build chunks of the new XC stuff so know that. Not terribly fit though so will be beaten by any whippets.

Having been made redundant I can go anytime
Just recovering from 8 weeks off the bike due to knee injury so fitness is next to useless.

I'd suggest leaving at least a week of dry weather. Last time I went it hadn't rained for a week and there were loads of puddles everywhere, making some sections really bad.

Shall we say a week on sunday? 21st of June. I'm liking this lack of fitness pace tho
Posted 2 years ago # -
I'd be up for a bit of that.
Posted 2 years ago # -
I'll get someone to cover me callout so yep, I should be up for that too.

any chance you could make it later Sunday 21st as I'll not get back into Sheffield till lunch time.
the Singletraction / Wharncliffe boys are looking for some one to help out run dig days too. I'm up for doing it if some other people want to lend a hand too.

I'm easy...ahem.. as to what time to meet so just let me know.
As for dig days, did ask about them a while ago but got no answer but i'll help if i can.

from the Singletraction site
XC Dig Days are largely on hold at present unless we can find someone with a bit of time on their hands this year to run dig days (mail xc@wharncliffe.info if you fancy it or just want to discuss the possibility). That said there is work going on in the background.
I've mailed them to see what I can do to help as I think there is a lot that could be done by marking the trail a bit better, semi blocking off some of the other trails that head no where, making the existing trail narrower in places where the mud has made people go wide (lets the rest of the trail repair its self instead of looking a mess) and so on.
also if you all make it later than earlier on the Sunday I can show you some fun little extras I found just outside the woods.

ER... regarding the 21st, you do all realise that its Dad's day don't you?

which for me means it is nearly possible i get first choice on ridng time!
thepodge - saw you post that said you look out onto the woods - checked upstairs and you aren't in spare bedroom! - I'm in Wharncliffe Side near Blue Ball

I can't make that weekend as it is my wedding aniversary. Def join up another time tho or midweek if anyone fancies it.
I was chatting to a guy that builds up at Wharncliffe and all official trail building is on hold as someone has made an official complaint even tho they have FC backing. Hopefully all will be sorted soon enought tho.

Yes, i know its fathers day, but as mines very old and crusty
i shall only be popping in for a quick 10 mins. Can we get a ride in that day or do we need to put off? I'm away the following weekend but will be back for the 4/5 July.
Is a evening ride easier for people?
Posted 2 years ago # -
Skiprat - I'm fine with riding that day, I just realised why I was going to be out of town till around lunch. I thought I'd remind everyone just in case.
Antigee - I'm in Hillsborough Park, I can just see the edge of the woods out one window and the ski village out the other so don't worry i'm not a secret lodger.
Archaic - I too have been speaking to the Singletraction guy who told me the same as well as to keep em peeled for the new Parkwood Development but the news clip I pasted above is from March and from what I can gather he's OK with trail maintenance just not extending the trail network. i'm supposed to be meeting him soon to discuss it further.

Cool, cheers podge. As for the building side of things, i work for a waste company and know plenty of people in the waste game in Sheff. Could be usefull for recycled building materials for trails/resurfacing stuff. Keep me posted on this side of things and mention it to the chap in charge. I realise not much can be done at the moment but could be handy later on
Just need to work a time out, but roll-call for riding Wharncliffe on the 21st of June are : -

Monday bump to get more people to come for a ride.
Podge, what time are you ready from? 12?
Posted 2 years ago # -
12?, unlikely, more like 2/3. need to speak to the Mrs and see what she thinks as its her who'll be driving.

that rocky bit is originally termed, section 4... it was never finished. Needed about 200 barrows of hardcore and 50meters of board walk between the rocky bits. That said, when it was dry and first opened..you could clean it, Its got a lot worse since we opened it unfinished... bad move really.
