Long shot really, but does anyone know, or is themselves a fully qualified structural engineer who would be able to calculate wind loading on a temporary outdoor event structure (4m tall tower with large graphic banners)?

The event organisers require proof (calculations) showing that it will meet a minimum wind standard of 50mph.

If that sounds like you then please get in touch. We are expecting to pay for this so if you’re fully qualified and fancy a little bit of extra income for undertaking this work then please let us know.

I doubt it’s something anyone would be willing to do ‘on the side’ due to insurances/professional obligations/their career, etc. but try looking on the Institution of Structural Engineers website.

I wrote a program 15 odd years ago which would calculate wind loading on structures at different heights from different directions based on the surrounding terrain using some British standard. I was working for a firm which built and designed mast and towers at the time.

unfortunately I don’t have it now and am certainly not qualified in that respect.

    sorry and good luck

The people building the tower should be able to do this ❓

The licensing authority may well have contacts and the suppliers should also be able to provide this info as well at least for their “bit”. Adding banners will obviously change that though.

Your local events company might also have a contacts list for these type of folk.

I know a professor in Melbourne who specialises in this kind of stuff, and is expert in loading due to WA cyclones…..but that doesn’t really help you does it.
