Got a problem with my upstairs bathroom lights, in the cold weather they don't turn on properly. I have two seperate circuits, the first being the combined extractor & light and then the second being 5 spotlights. Both have their own transformers and are controlled by a single pull switch. It's doing my head in, can't understand why the 5 spotlights won't come on but the extractor/light will. Any ideas? Once the place has heated up a bit they come back on.

Have you done a continuity test / resistance test to try and identify any potential problems to the transformer supply?

Could be the transformer mate. Either way you need to get at them to check, once youve gained access try swapping them over.(assumimg they are the same)

The two transformers are slightly different. From what I can see they're only a tenner so will go and try another

no, don't have a tester unfortunatelyPosted 3 months ago # -
Hi
I think it could be the type of transformer on your spots v the extractor, some are fitted with inrush current limiters. Negative temperature coefficient (NTC) thermistors are commonly used in switching power supplies.
In short the ntc limits current when you first switch on however thermistors are very temp sensitive and yours maybe getting just too cold and not letting any current throught when cold. Normally the inrush current limiter self-heats, the current begins to flow through it and warm it to in effect open the flow of current slowly
is there an operating temp range on the casing?

This is the other one

What you're saying will make some sense. Apart from this morning I put the lights on the extractor one would come on and the others won't. If I pull the pull cord a few times the lights will normally flash and then struggle a little then eventually come on
