Hive mind impress me once again. I have not long brought a new place that needs a bit of renovation . The front of the house is being repointed and Bay window tidied up and lintel put in to support. The Decorative Lead roof has come to the end of its life (Original Edwardian) and also needs replacing.

It seems I have two choices – Lead and slate .. I’m not keen on 600/700 quids worth of lead being only 8 ft up and 10 ft away from a public road as its quite tempting to a toe-rag .. which leaves Slate which doesn’t really fit the period features or street.

I have seen GRP Bay Kits that replicate the Lead Look but have struggled to find a roofer that wants to work with them .. am i barking up the wrong tree why the dislike? .. Also if you’re anywhere near bedfordshire and interested in quoting give me a shout

GRP is pretty easy to DIY especially for a small area. Its good stuff once up and has a very long guarantee when professionally fitted so nothing fundamentally wrong with it. If you do want to get a man in then you’ll need to find a specialist rather than a general roofer than you then give a kit to

If the original lead has been up that long what makes you think it will suddenly be nicked. A piece that size will also weigh a lot so not easily stolen.

The edwardians were well known for their use of Grp.

You are mearly a custodian for the house don’t ruin it. Fit lead. It hasn’t been stolen yet has it.
