Cartridge bearings for Surly singlespeed hub. Very tight fit, any reason I shouldn’t cool them to make them easier to fit?

Not that I can think of.

I thought that was pretty much standard practice. Go for it!

Can also pour boiling water over the hub to warm it a bit if you need to – but much more scald potential there. Also make sure not to get it on other bearings that may still be there as you may wash out grease.

Thanks thought it was OK but as my last set only lasted 50 miles due to my mechanical ineptness I thought I’d check first 🙂

    Standard pratice innit.

    Bearings overnight in the freezer.
Hub shell 5 minutes in the microwave.

    Then simply bash together.

Hub shell 5 minutes in the microwave.

This is an important stage in the process.

I fear 5 minutes is inadequate, I’d go for 45 to be sure. And retire to a safe distance.

Heat gun on the hub shell FTW.

Hub shell in the microwave? Have you seen what happens when you put metal in a microwave?

Agh you see, you can put metal in the microwave if you stand it on an upturned plate!

Frozen Lasagna cooked in the microwave is no longer a problem for you now!
