  • Any opticians out there? (confusing eye exam report)

I just had my usual eye test two years after the last one. The recent one was with a new optician as I moved to a new part of the UK. Both this optician and my previous one are local independents.

I am totally confused by the new report, it’s completely different to my last one:

    Previous:
    Right eye:Sphere +5.00 Cylinder -2.75 Axis 90
    Left eye:Sphere +5.00 Cylinder -2.75 Axis 74

    New:
    Right eye:Sphere +2.25 Cylinder +2.75 Axis 178
    Left eye:Sphere +2.25 Cylinder +2.75 Axis 164

Anyone shed any light on this?

    Yeah, nothing to worry about.
    When transposed:
Only a two degree axis change in R.
Minus cyl is the norm but some opticians use plus cyl.
Add the plus cyl to the sphere to get +5.00, change the cyl to minus, then take off 90 from the axis.
    Gives +5.00/-2.75×88

Different ways of writing the same thing, thanks.
