..a mapping solution to put a .gpx file on and then tag photographs to locations on the ‘map’?

It would need to allow a few people with a login to upload pictures to the map (ideally in chronological order) and potentially add notes to it.

Using it as a record for changes in a trail over a period of time and figured there must be something already online that resorting to a spreadsheet and pictures from a phone…

Anyone know of anything, please?

There is a freeware GIS software called QGIS which may be suitable. You’d need to save the photo’s as a data layer on a shared network / cloud drive but could be made to work fairly easily.

If the photos are taken using phones, then the EXIF data should have the location info in, upload to Flickr or picasa or similar and their is usually a map view available.

You can do that in Google Earth.

You could use Google My Maps. It lets you add markers, and import GPX files, and add photos etc. You can share the map, to allow other people to edit it. https://www.google.com/maps/d/

Or uMap is a similar sort of thing, based on OpenStreetMap. It has more options for customising the styles etc, though maybe a bit trickier to setup. http://umap.openstreetmap.fr/en/

How? Is that the download and local install of Google Earth?
