  • Any good deals on turbo trainers?
  • gnusmas
    Full Member

I am after a turbo trainer to use while my foot recovers from its pending op (nothing serious but advised to as little as possible for up to a month). Obviously i would use it afterwards through the winter/nights i can’t get out etc.

Does anyone know if there’s any good deals out there? Don’t want anything expensive just something to keep me going.

    Probably wont happen!

Get one second hand, lots of people buy them, then never use them or give up fairly quickly.
Then download some suffer fest videos

That is more than likely to be the case hence not wanting to spend too much on one. Second hand is preferable but most people won’t post as they are quite heavy and i haven’t found one close to me yet

have you tried a wanted ad??

i bought one second hand for £40,
it came with a massive fan, which really helps move the air around otherwise it gets very hot.

crc had some good deals a month or so ago.
They still have the Elite Volare fluid at a good price.
My preference is for the fluid models due to their variable resistance through the gears.
Plenty of free resources available … if you know where to look 🙂

will have a look at crc but second hand would be better (cheaper) hopefully get something sorted soon

    Buy mine
Used for around 8 hours and in immaculate condition.

It’s an Elite Crono Fluid Elastogel which cost me £200 12 months ago. I’ll throw in a barely used Vitoria Zaffiro home trainer tyre. Both Excellent Condition. £100 collected from Manchester?

    Elite Crono Fluid Elastogel
I can recommend that model. It’s the same one I train on.
Folds flat, fluid, quiet and good resistance.

Bregante, thanks for the offer, unfortunately i am miles away from you – near Aberystwyth in West Wales. Otherwise i would be very tempted

May sound odd, but have a look at the machine mart website. They have three models of turbo at decent prices, probably a breach near you.

machine Mart? does sound odd indeed.

Yes but all turbo trainers are not equal.
I’ve used cheap turbo trainers (magnetic) before and the resistance is way too low for any meaningful session.

Know the feeling, I’m also looking at spinning bikes close to me as they seem a little cheaper and less hassle

+1 rollers. Scary at first but very good and great for developing an efficient pedal stroke.

been looking at the rollers after the recommendations, what is the difference between the alloy and foam rollers regarding performance? Is one type better than the other?

if you have a broken foot, i wouldnt get back to fitness on rollers.

there is almost guaranteed to be an element of fast clip out/foot downing needed at the start!

    “Elite Crono Fluid Elastogel”

Yep got one too, plenty of progressive realistic resistance.

Got mine from Wiggle for £140, currently £150 on Wiggle. No need for a specific tyre either has it doesnt appear to wear them out.

    Oh and its quiet too!

Foam rollers, not sure what they are?

I’ve got the Elite-v-arion which have a resistance setting, (which I leave on full), these are excellent. I bought their base model first to try out on, liked them a lot, but sold them to a team mate and upgraded. Both are plastic, unlike the aluminium ones from CycleOps.

I have an Elite Mag Lite trainer in excellent condition – no longer used since I sold my road bike last year. I’d like £60 for it.

I’m based in Cheshire but have family in Aberystwyth so could bring it down if you’re interested.

    Machine mart
SJS cycles do an own brand one
Some guy sells them on ebay

All about £50 new and look to be the same one.

I’ve never tried one, but I almost bought a container full the other day from the manufacturer in China.

Otherwise get a used Elite, its what I just bought.
