Got my basic training in a few weeks, and apart from "no nylon" there isn't any info on what to wear under the fire gear. When I did one of the pre-entry test days, it was a sweaty experience- so what do you wear?
Any firefighters? Baselayers..
You will wear your uniform underneath it. We've been issued with 'wicking tee shirts' but they are crap.
yeah, we have wicking t-shirts as well. ours are fine, altho i never really understand the rationale behind wearing uniform trousers under fire kit. youd just end up sweaty all day. personally i have a pair of trackies on my peg i change into quickly before putting my leggings on. only takes a couple of seconds and im still ready before some of the others
you got in wholetime or retained mate? and where? just being nosy
We have lightweight working rig trousers that we wear most of the time , normally you just wear what you have on at the time , you'll probably be issued other kit by your brigade anyway won't you ?
Action working dress/overalls and anti-flash.
I'm not a fireman but we have to wear two layers of arc flash kit for work. Not the weather has turned chilly, we can also order flame retardant Bastid layers from Cromwell's. They're surprisingly good actually.
Won't matter what you wear under, it will always be a sweatfest! Cosalt stuff we wear, like most stuff, is 3 layers thick, so all the heat stays in.
We just have the normal work rig, cotton tshirt and poly/cotton trousers under fire kit
That will teach me to post from my phone without proof reading.
Now the weather has turned...
Base layers, not bastid layers.
As has been said above, most brigades will insist on you wearing their approved uniform underneath, if you do get to wear your own then go for any sort of wicking base layer, it won't make sod all difference whilst your wearing it but you will dry quicker afterwards when you get to remove your tunic.
Our kit in London is so useless (Bristol) that when we do any real fire training they tell us to wear a sweatshirt under our tunics to prevent us getting burnt, I did a compartment fire instructors course at the begining of the year and every one on the course at some point had to be dowsed is burns gel after a drill
When I did my BA course, the instructors wore the cotton joggers and sweatshirts they sold in their welfare shop. Gullane btw.
As has been said wear what your issued, if you do get burned from hot spots (they'll tell you it was your fault) but at least you won't also have to explain non issued kit.
Bristols kit = pap
Now on cosalt pbi gold = x2 pap
Can't wait for summer again
