Does anyone know if it is against building regs not to have a loft hatch? I am potentially buying a house and it has no roof access. Could I insist that the vendors pay for a loft hatch or take the money off the price of the house?

No requirement for a hatch as far as I know.

Installing one is quick and easy. You can get cartridge units for about £200. Takes a day to install and make good. So £350 all in say. Hardly worth getting special about it.

I think Stoners correct. My only concern would be how do you know the roof void isnt concealing any hidden nasties?

No Building Regs requirement to have a loft hatch i'm afraid.

I know what you are saying Marin. I will have to get the loft viewed

No building reg requirements, but you would need access for maintenance at the very least.

How are you going to get access to inspect if no hatch? non destructive access & all that

    good luck with it

if there are no services in the roof void and you have an insulated ceiling, its not necessarily desirable to have access to the loft area.
