  • Anti-vibration mount for bike trailer: Any ideas?

We have an 8 week old wee boy. We want to get out a bit more and plan to use the bike trailer. I have removed the nylon seat as this is unsuitable for a really wee nipper. I have fabricated a mount that will hold his car seat (a Maxi-Cosi Cabriofix) securely in place, yet allows easy removal, and this is mounted on a sheet of 18mm ply. I want to mount the ply into the base of the trailer in a manner that makes it easily removable, but secure, and minimises the vibration passed on to the wee fella.

I plan to increase the sizes of the tyres on the trailer from 1.95″ to 2.3″ tyre (20″ BMX size BTW) as this will soak up some buzz, but if I can isolate more trail buzz, then that’s good.

We only plan to ride on local cycle tracks, not the Fort Bill DH… (yet)

So, any good ideas on how to isolate the vibration of the trailer base from a sheet of 18mm ply mounted on to it? The base is flat steel sheet BTW.

Sone sort of rubber engine mount or exhaust type bushes?

anything that is going to be secure enough to bolt the ply to will transmit road vibration. It’s too subtle and HF for things like rubber mount to remove.

Just run the tyres softer and save the effort for pulling the trailer along.

sorry if this is tosh but I’m not entirely getting the design, but could you use something like a hose pipe between the two and put the bolts thru that and compress it (or a gel pad or old style camping matress etc)

I have splashed £6 on the ones linked to above. I will try to post some photos of the project when building/finished.

make it all out of carbon fiber, I hear that reduces trail buzz!

anti vibration mounts, vibration isolators, bobbin mounts

Hi, Not sure if your post is still live. I work for a company called AV Industrial Products, who specialise in Anti-Vibration Mountings, Shock Mounts, Bobbins Mounts (Like the mini exhaust) etc. We are based in Leicester, UK

I would suggest looking at one of our failsafe captive AV mounts, as these are ideal for mobile applications and ensure that the product does not fail due to high shock loads etc.

You can visit the website http://www.avindustrialproducts.co.uk , where you can see the various vibration & shock mountings that we offer.

In this instance you could look at our “Captive Transit Mounts” or possible our “T-Bush” mountings which are both excellent vibration isolators & offer a captive failsafe option.

If you need any help, please don’t hesitate to contact me for further information.

    Thanks
