Been tasked with cleaning up a laptop for an aged acquaintance, he thinks it’s rife with viruses etc. Already updated Avast free version & run a scan which comes back clean.

Is there any freeware the Hivemind would recommend to check for malware or spyware that Avast might have missed?

    TIA

Malwarebytes or SuperAntiSpyware, though the later revels in screaming about even the slightest infringement (eg: Normal website cookies)

Just use the standard Microsoft virus stuff

Malwarebytes is a good starting point, yes.

Sounds good. I’ll give it a lash & see if anything pops up.
