  • ANT+ sensors and Garmin 500 – tips and useage ?

I have a Garmin 500 that gets used on road bike to record my rides. I don’t do Strava but do load up some rides to Garmin Connect for future reference.

Have just got a new Defy which has a built in ANT+ thingy on the frame, and a wee bag of things – a spoke bit and a crank cadence bit.

The manual seems simple, but I haven’t yet explored the Garmin setup for it – I guess I will just set a 4th custom screen for Cadence. I can’t see me needing the spoke speed sensor as won’t be using that bike on my rollers.

    any top tips, experiences ?

    Cheers

I got a giant TCR with the Ant+ kit. Dead easy to set up with my 500:

    Go to Menu>Settings>Bike Settings>Bike 1> Ant+Spd/Cad>Yes

The spoke magnet will give you a better speed readout than GPS so I’d use that too.

It’s worth using the speed sensor as well – the Garmin picks up your speed/distance from it and uses that until the GPS signal is locked.
