    will any ant+ hr strap work with my garmin or do i need to get an official garmin one?

    any should work. The only slight issue is that if you have a fancy watch than does other stuff that just heart rate, e.g. estimate VO2max or how you are running then other straps might not work

    I’ve used a non Garmin ANT+ belt with a Garmin watch and it worked fine.

    I have used a non garmin with Edge units – no issues
