looks like a 6 bolt disk adapter for a 155mm tandem hub – they are built to take a screw on drag brake

    to be used as a

    Trendy cock ring.

Or, to convert our tandem to take a disk brake in time for Heaven of the South…

    You lot are too good/geeky!

that looks nice and everything but you’re going to have a bugger of a job if you ever need to service your hub. The adapter we’ve got on our has two side milled flat so that when you need to remove the adapter to get at the axle you can put the adapter in a vice and play at bus drivers. Thinking about it, how are you supposed to get any leverage on it to fit it in the first place? Finger tight will do I suppose but it will get tighter and tighter as you use it to brake…

    You want one of these

(btw STW features heavily in the google image search results for “Record vice”

You could easily rig something to use the M5 boltholes (I’d lash something up with an old rotor, other approaches are available). But yeah, flats would be a nice touch, though you’d need a big-ass spanner.

I suspect the notch in the side is designed to accept a suitable cold chisel/screwdriver blade.

as above, use a vice. Seriously.

the notch is for the set screw to “hold” the adapter “in place” once fitted. ‘Cos obviously, a 2.5mm set screw will hold the adapter when you are braking a fully loaded tandem with two riders doing 25mph down a hill… 🙂

    Fancy tonearm pillar clamp?

When I saw the image online, I thought the notch was for a grub screw… But it’s not – it’s got 3 notches in it – possibly for a spanner arm?

Anyway, of all the challenges I face in my day to day life, I think fitting and removal of this, with hammer AND vice if need be, will be a fairly easy task!

Maybe it’s for a fitting tool then as you suggest. OUrs does have a set screw, but I’m not sure it’s too effective 🙂

I hate tightening things using vices, you can lose all sense of torque. Especially with wheels…
