I’m going to do the (hopefully) post-winter service on my 2013 rebas at the weekend. Just a bog standard lower leg service. I’ve done it before, but I thought I’d browse a few more ‘how to’ vids on YouTube just to be 100% sure. I watched the mbr one.
The one thing on that vid that I haven’t done before is to make sure the fork is fully compressed when tightening the foot nuts. According to the very sage-sounded Al Vines, this is ‘really important’ as you don’t want to create an unintentional air chamber at the bottom of the fork. Having looked at the SRAM service manual, I have never seen this mentioned before. I can’t imagine that the lower leg and wiper seal form a particularly air tight combination, but according to the mbr vid, doing this helps the fork to work. My fork is a solo air if that helps.
Any advice gratefully accepted, if I’m going to do the job I’d like to do it as best I can to avoid the nagging doubt that I’ve missed something obvious yet important(!)
