Just got my Whyte bike back from ATB Sales after a frame warranty, they replaced the BB with a Ceramic Pressfit30 unit, after my first ride on it today it is a bloody nightmare everytime i pedal hard it creaks constantly only when i coast it goes away or pedal gently.

What the hell is wrong with it?. I’m a bit annoyed , i need the bike for a trip in a days time and i have no specialist tools for working on this type of bracket. FLOUNCE!!!!

I just bought a Boardman road bike with a bb30 that creaked like a bastard. I just removed the ly crank arm, knock the axle through with a rubber mallet and greased the axle and bearing surfaces where the axle sat. Put it back together and it’s fine. 😀 No special tools required, assuming your lh crank isn’t attached with anything more fancy than an Allen bolt like mine.

Nope mine is FSA and has a stupid round thing with drilled holes (i guess a special tool required) fixture which doesn’t allow the simple Allen bolt from being removed. Not happy.

I’ve not needed any special tools for removing FSA cranks, are you sure the stupid round thing with holes in isn’t part of the self extractor? A 10mm key inside it will pull the arm off, and as said above, a thorough greasing will usually sort it, can’t figure why they all seem to come assembled dry.

Like Coatsey said, the round thing with holes is probably what holds the bolt in. As you undo it it pops the crank off the axle.

I expect they are all assembled dry as greasing them would add another 0.8 seconds to the construction process and time is money! 😆

I’m Guessing it’s an fsa afterburner crank?? If so 10mm Allen key and it self extracts the crank arm off, remove grease everything up re assemble

Having been an unpaid, had to buy two pf30’s in about three months, tester for SRAM I have decided to fit an FSA PF30 bb to my salsa spearfish with a vdrive crank. I did pop the seals off the bearings for a peak. Drive side one has plenty greese in from new and the none drive side has got another seal under the outer one. As the non dive bearing always went first with the SRAM bb this does seem like a good idea, but time will tell. Not sure about road bike ones?

+1. The drilled circular thing is the retainer for the self-extracting bolt; you don’t need to take that off.

Thanks chaps, had a bit of a look today and your all right it was meant to stay there to allow crank to be pulled off.

Anyhow, took crankset off found inside to be greased but minimally, so i regreased all inside BB/bearings with Super Web grease. Also liberally coated the axle, threads etc. Re-assembled making sure to tighten preloads on axle etc.

Took it for an up the road tester and silence soooo fingers crossed it stays like that when used in anger on saturday.

    Cheers for the help.
