Anyone know a way to get Gmail running on an Android tablet, but in a way that mimics Outlook as used in a million offices? As in, individual emails, not conversations, sort by date/sender/topic etc?

The Gmail app is too busy doing it’s own thing, and am trying to find a solution for a luddite relative!

Have you tried linking the androids own email to the gmail account?

I just tried it on my galaxy tab, seems to do what you ask.

Gmail on a desktop groups into conversations too. I hated it at first, but it makes sense and I like it now.

Try the standard Mail app that is a native android thing, you should have it already.

AquaMail is (now) my fave Android mail app – more flexible than others I’ve used. Free if you don’t mind the sig it adds, less than the price of a pint in London if you do.
