well, its not that different, but my post yesterday about the North Pennines MTB Marathon didn’t seem to get noticed.

    July 19th, Garrigill, Cumbria.

A choice of 3 routes, each is basically one big ride in its own right.

Its being organised by the Tyne Valley MTB Club to raise funds for trail access and development, and to encourage tourism in the area.

More info on the website and facebook page:

Nice to see something without the usual Gnar Enduro Bobbins.

Well there are sections you could describe as a bit gnarr, and most people will probably end up walking up some of the climbs. So it could be an Enduro. 😉

Did I mention the free beer?

How far away are you? Entry number 1 is from Worcestershire I think.
Some camping space available, and plenty of b&bs around.

Any clues on the routes? I have a group of friends ready to enter with me, but there is a range of fitness and skill levels in the group and I’m not sure which ride will suit us best.

Failing that – if we enter, can we switch which ride we do once you release the routes?

A better thread title should do it.

Maybe I should have gone with “free beer”

Anyway, routes are between garrigill and Blencarn.
Shortest one is the shortest way of doing it, medium goes further afield and biggest route follows the medium and then loops onto the short route.
Nothing too technical on the whole, its all about the distance and remoteness.
Yes, route changes on the day will be fine. You’ll be able to downgrade from biggest to bigger partway round too if its too much for you, or upgrade from bigger to biggest if you’re feeling good.

Looks like the nearest thing to the good old Polaris Mountain Marathon.

Is it a trailquest, a race or a sportiff?

In British Cycling speak, its an off-road sportive. Certainly not a race as its using public rights of way, and not a trailquest as the route will be marked

Cheers. Will start marshalling the troops 🙂
