    No. Break-even.

    1. Bought A £289
    2. Return item A = total cost £0.
    3. Upgrade to B £329 (incl £40 upgrade) = total cost £329.
    4. Return item B £329 – £329 refunded = total cost £0.
    5. Incurred penalty £25 (cost) = Total cost £25.
    6. Bought C £ 279 minus £25 refunded.
    7. Break even.

    you’re £25 out

    you have spent 329-25 = 304 to buy an item worth £279

    £304-279 = £25

    but then that £25 was the penalty for opening item B, so it does balance up

    Cheers

    Oh, my fee ? Just £25. PPG is fine

    you’ve not been clear enough for anyone to say for sure

    what’s the list price of item C ?

    If it’s less than £304 then you’re out of pocket (but presumably that’s because of the penalty charge)

    No. You’re not out of pocket.

    You are only paying for item C i.e. £279.

    Really not sure if trolling here…..

    You paid 304 for an item with ticket of 279. That is 279 for the item and 25 quid admin fee.

    The refund was for the difference between 329 and 304 …..

    The £25 admin charge is payment for me (him “paying” me, Not the shop) giving advice on STW … 😆

    I don’t want to know what you paid, they could have sold it to you at a discount. I want to know what the list price was

    Forget Item A – you effectively got a full refund for that as you put the value towards B.

    You paid 329 for item B

    Did you ever get a refund – if so how much ?

    If you took Item C + £25 instead of a refund, you’re out of pocket if the list price of C was less than £304

    The list price doesn’t matter. He paid £279 and they gave him the £25 fee back.

    okay so start again forget item A

    £329 old item
    bought back to shop
    £25 handling fee deducted(shop took that because I returned £329 item )
    new item was £279
    got £25 refunded back onto card(not the handling fee)

    A = £289 (total cost £289)
    A = Return A (total cost £0)
    B = Bought B £329 (total cost £329)
    B = Return B (total cost £0)
    B = Return B incurred £25 handling charge (total cost £25)
    C = Bought C £279 (total cost £279 + £25 = £304)
    C = Refunded £25 from B (total cost £304 – £25 = £279)

    Total cost he incurred is exactly the price of C = £279.

    Break-even.

    You’ve paid £304.00 for an item that cost £279.00.

    £329.00 minus £279.00 = £50.00 and you only got a £25.00 refund.

    £329.00 minus £279.00 = £50.00 and you only got a £25.00 refund.

    Usually the shop would cancel/refund the transaction immediately when you return the item to keep thing simple, so each time he returned the item he got refunded.

    The only time he got charged was £25 which was later refunded when he bought C. Therefore, he did not incur extra cost.

    🙄

    edit: this is provided the shop refund / cancel the transaction each time he returned the item.
