A friend whose wife is an advanced Alzheimer's sufferer has rung up a aubstantial telephone bill, using BT's Directory Enquiries and having them connect her (at a fee) for every phone call she has made in the last quarter.
She has no recollection of making the calls.
What chance would there be of an appeal given her medical history?
Just get BT or the service provider to put a ban on premium rate numbers.
Tricky one. appeal to their better nature would be best I think. She has used the service after all. Might be something under POVA or whatever it is called now. Basically they do have an obligation to treat vulnerable people well

I would certainly try making an inquiry and notify them of the situation. Try to get a phone where she has to press a number before dialing out like in an office.
Please seek some help as it will only get worse, does she need a carer or to even go to a home, my fathers home had some very nice nurses from the UK, Jamaica, Thailand and Bangladesh. they offered a level of care me and my mother could not have given my dad, the downside is travelling to see you loved one. Start thinking about power of attorney and getting a separate as well as their current joint bank account.
If you need any further help I'll do my best to offer it. Nasty illness that gets far far less funding than cancer.

So very true, had a few experiences with customers and freinds and family, its so very sad to visit somebdy and have them swear at you, scream and throw things, or not even to recognize you.
If the service providor is bt ask them to place a118 bar on the line dont know if other providors can supply this
Similar situation with my mother who also has Alzhiemers but this was involving mobiles ,several of them,Citizens advice got all costs incurred overturned and had to change her number to stop the calls.
Possibly bar all outgoing calls except to necessary numbers ?
My Grandmother was brought home a few times by Plod. A couple of times with a screwdriver in her handbag.
She is now in a better place for her condition. She hates it; but it's better than wandering the streets in her slippers at 2am.
