    Pretty standard question. Anyone know if its true that the weld is the strongest point of an assembly. i.e. if you weld 2 tubes together im told dont worry about the weld its the strongest point. Assuming a good weld (welder) and correct materials are used would that statement be true?

    Depends on what filler rod was used & what grade of aluminium your welding. But IME the alloy either side of the weld will be slightly weaker from the welding action. This can be changed by heat treatment at a later stage.
    Too many variable to say its a true statement.

    cracked alu frames can be repaired the actual welding is straight forward its the subsequent ageing or heat treating that hardens the metal. I think…
