    I think the money lost from this accident will have come as no surprise to the management at Alton Towers and it’s just as valid to claim that there might have been commercial pressure on the staff to ensure safety as to speculate that they were under pressure to ignore it.

    No – it’s rather more subtle than that. But just because there isn’t a manager screaming about them losing money every second doesn’t mean the commercial pressure doesn’t exist. I’d be surprised if they were encouraged to keep rides closed any longer than necessary – at which point you start getting into the definition of “necessary”.
