  • Alternative uses for Calor gas bottles.

I’ve seen a Calor bottle made into a chimenea type thingy, using a bit of lorry? exhuast pipe as a flue.

I’ve found a battered (i.e. dented, valve guard cut off, valve unscrewed/ removed) rusty old 15 kg bottle in a ditch. Tempted to set to with an angle grinder and make me a little brazier.

    Any other ideas?

they are flash. My brother has used 2 of the 5 foot long ones weld side by side. the bottom one is used as a wood burner (less cutting ) and the top is a heat exchanger.
My version is small bbq’s . Knock the valve off and after filling with water weld a steel car wheel on top. Mini wheels for a couple and Landrover wheels for the family.

I’ll add that my initial cut was done with the bottle full of water. Then once it had no top I emptied it and chucked in a burning rag, just to be sure!

With cons such as such as a non returnable deposit Calor can suck on my ball sack.

I must agree with The Brick.
But perhaps not in quite such a ‘biological’ way. Urgh!

It is technically illegal (i recall) to chop one up, to do it not aware of the risks is very stupid.

    Be safe.
(I have seen to many gas cylinder after photos)

Advice on how to create wood burning stoves is already widespread on the internet. This is not only dangerous, but unlawful. Subsequently, Calor will consider pursuing legal action against these websites and anyone who is found to be unlawfully tampering with cylinders.’

I have no useful contribution to make…

To be fair I didn’t know it was illegal, I’ll just makes the next one from scratch.

There’s a hell of a lot of these on eBay for sale too.

You seriously think there is statute covering recycling an old gas cylinder? I think its just a rumour put around by BG who don’t want people using up their cylinders.
