    Hi,

    does anyone know of a cheaper just as good alternative the the fox branded fluids/oils?

    The red is silkolene RSF 10wt.
    Green is Torco which is about the same price and the float fluid is Torco assembly paste if memory serves.

    There’s a chap called Peter VanDeran or something like that who published a lovely table that compares all the centi-stroke values for most fork oils. This is the true measure rather than the nominal wt.

    i like putoline fork oil, works for me, the float stuff is not so expensive 1 bottle will last ages, but i have used a bit of gear oil in the air chamber before, worked OK.

    Motul you’ll get it from any good motorbike shop !,all there oil is the db’s !..just check the weight of fork oil

    even Fox have apparently stopped using the Float fluid(repackaged 90wt gear oil) in the lowers as they’ve finally realised that as soon as the fork goes through a few cycles the lower weight oil in the bath will jusy flush the Float out of the foam rings…

    I use Silkolene in all my forks (fox Float RL, RS Reba, RS Rev, RS Lyrik). I dont think for one second Fox, RS etc have refineries that produce their own oils, and if Silkolene is good enough for race-quality motorcycle forks its good enough for MTB.
